I’m super excited that I got to photograph my good friend’s family this year. I only get out to New York every so often and I haven’t had a chance to photograph these kids in over two years! It was far too long and they have all grown so much since I saw them last. Fiona is a little lady, quite the fashion police. I got busted for wearing the same pair of shoes more than two days in a row, nothing gets past this child! Quincy is just a little bundle of energy and love and little James is well beyond his almost 3 years. Having the two big sisters as his guides has made him the most articulate child of his age that I have ever met. When the three of them are together it’s amazing and crazy all at the same time. They’re running around feeding off each others energy and ideas while simultaneously grilling me one by one…. “How many pets do you have?” “Do you do photography for a living?” “Do you have a pee pee?”…. You get the idea. Needless to say, between hanging out and running after them with my camera and getting some grown-up time with their mom and dad, my good friends Michelle & James, I had a great visit. If only New Paltz were a short drive away.

When Relatives Come Calling We Turn into Tourists

Glenn’s brother Marc just visited us from Ireland and his visit coincided with a super short visit with my dad in SF. Whenever people come to visit us, we turn into tourists. I guess this isn’t such an unusual thing, but I do enjoy it. We got to spend the day in San Francisco, a day in Napa and a day up at Lake Tahoe. While in SF we were in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Union Square but I made an effort to take my camera and pay attention to the small details. There are so many if you just stop and take a gander.

In Napa, I started to take photos at the Oxbow Public Market but then I forgot to pick up my camera until the car ride home. I think that might have been a result of wine tasting I did catch a few beautiful photos just after sunset on the back roads between Napa and Winters, this is the only time in Northern California where everything is so green and I think we need to take it all in and enjoy it!

Tahoe was beautiful and crisp as usual, even with the fierce winds and choppy lake surface we felt compelled to take a walk on the beach with Mugsie. She was in and out of the water chasing after her stick despite the cold and she even caught a few snowballs. By the end of the day the lake had settled down and we took in some beautiful views of the lake and mountains behind.

It was so great to see Glenn and his brother bicker like they were kids and enjoy deep talks at the pub. I take it for granted that I have family nearby but all his live far away, these visits are short and treasured. The week felt like a little vacation, I totally abandoned my usual routine, ate too much rich food and drank too much wine but I have no regrets.

Lost in the Shuffle – Spring Flowers and Cooking at Home

Sometimes images get lost in the shuffle and surface later on down the line. These spring flowers, coincidentally, were shot in my yard and neighborhood almost a year ago exactly. The photos of the food below were taken about 6 weeks ago. The only reason that I found them is because Taryn said, “where are those photos from our dinner last month?” Otherwise, I never would have even looked for them! They were found on some random card tucked away in my backup card wallet. Finding photos like these reminds me of how important it is to keep organized and on top of my workflow. I hope you enjoy these lost photos…..

Okay, so I know this post is a bit dis-jointed but I wanted to share a few things….. We go from my cat greeting me in the morning from her usual spot to my new favorite breakfast to a couple of dinners over the past week or so. Enjoy!

My new breakfast obsession: Coconut milk oatmeal with dried cranberries, vanilla and shaved coconut. I tweaked the recipe quite a bit but I got the idea from Vanilla Garlic.

Glenn’s favorite go to beer…..

Spinach and arugula salad topped with lots of crunchy veggies….

My new way with roast chicken: Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour covered and then uncover for 15 to 30 minutes. The result? Super moist meat and crispy skin. I roasted this free-range bird with carrots, celery, onion and peeled potatoes. YUM!

We tried this dish while we were on one of our veggie cleanses: Roasted acorn squash stuffed with sauteed mushrooms, sweet potato and carrot “fries” and sauteed zucchini. These squash are so beautiful!

My dad just came for a short visit and we decided to take a leisurely drive up to Tahoe and enjoy the wonderful and unexpected January weather. Usually when we drive up to Tahoe we drive straight up the mountain without any stops, so it was nice to take our time and stop along the way to snap some pics.

I’ve always wanted to stop and take a photo of this Fresh Pond sign. I wonder what the restaurant was like, such a mystery!

A quick smoke break, or as Tiffany would say a “yummy light” break….

Bridal Veil Falls is so small this year, since we have barely had any rain or snow…

Mugs had a blast running up and down the beach at Sand Harbor, that dog never gets tired!

This was my second year attending the NAMM Show in my adult life. I vaguely remember going as a little kid, but the memories are pretty foggy. From what I gather, however, NAMM used to be a much smaller affair than it is today. Talk about overwhelming! Take every kind of instrument, all playing at the same time, coupled with tens of thousands of people roaming around and all talking at once and you get overwhelming madness!! I was able to snap a few good shots, nonetheless. Next year, Glenn and I decided that we will go to NAMM for one day, them cross the street to Disneyland and spend two days there. I think this is a good plan….

I can’t believe Christmas has come and gone again. I know it sounds so cliche, but it’s so true! I almost NEVER remember to take photos of the food I cook, at least not while I’m cooking, but this year I actually remembered. If I hadn’t though, my fabulous foodie friend, Milan kindly reminded me to as well. Here are just a few photos from my Christmas weekend. It is by no means complete, I am notorious for not taking photos consistently at home when I’m busy cooking and preparing for a gathering. But I think you’ll get the basic idea. Happy New Year to you all! I hope you’ve had a wonderful time spent with friends, family and good food.
